Wood Magic workshops are art and craft based, mainly designed as interactive workshops for child and parent, making Native American style talking sticks and animal totem shields.
TALKING STICKS: Talking sticks are used by Native American
people in family discussions and meetings known as "pow wows". A time limit
is set and the stick is passed around the family. Whoever has the stick is
the only person allowed to speak, so each person from the biggest to the
smallest gets to express their views and learns how to listen to the opinions and views
of others. It is thought to be very disrespectful to over talk, hence the
talking stick teaches us to respect our peers, even if their views differ from ours.
It encourages positive and peaceful communication.

ANIMAL TOTEM SHIELDS: Totem animals, are believed by the Native American people, to be spirit
helpers sent to support, protect & inspire the individual with its particular
wisdom, aiding them in achieving their life's purpose. Animal totem shields are used
like amulets for protection or talismans for attracting the positive qualities of
the animal. Shield making can be purely creative or can be used as a tool to connect
with the archetypal energies and wisdom of our animal brothers and sisters, aiding us on a journey
of self discovery and revealing our own innate powers and abilities.
Adults can also make authentic style Native crafts should they so desire, so come along and have some fun!

The project also involved craft workshops related to the immediate environment of the Dunstable Downs, using a variety of materials.
